I Homebrew

I gave homebrewing a shot and I have to say that I enjoyed every step of the process and I can’t wait to brew again.  I immediately thought about making things easy for me after I brewed the wheat ale, like buying a keg, buying a freezer and making a kegirator to have more than one beer ready to pour, etc, all things that would cost me money and take up space at home I currently don’t have, but it’s in the future plans. When I first tried the beer, I was happy with the body, but felt it needed a little something.  My expectations were high, but after drinking a few and also getting reaction from friends and family, I’m happy with the outcome of the beer.  Using my rating system, I’d give it 2 to 2.5 Beer Caps.  It had good hop flavor for a wheat beer with a good amount of citrus.  I’m planning on brewing it again as it was very low in alcohol; just great for these warm summer days.  My next beer will be an IPA, also from an extract kit, but shortly after the IPA, I’ll brew this one again before the summer is over and maybe get into putting my recipes together.

The brew is ready and I’m sterilizing the bottles.

Ready to get capped.

Five weeks later my Hvnlydlite Wheat Ale is ready, named after my wife.

Throw one back for me ~ cheers!

Pictures of Vancouver

I’m finally getting around to posting all of the pictures I took from our vacation.  As I mentioned in the previous post, Alicia and I visited Vancouver and Seattle for our wedding anniversary.  I had a great time in these two cities, eating, drinking, and photographing them, it turned out to be a great getaway with a great partner.  I love photography and due to an app called Hipstamatic that is available for the iPhone, I’ve fallen in love with the square format.  Having an iPhone has also made it very easy for me to take pictures with it and put it back in my pocket, rather than haul a camera around.  I took my camera with me for one day around Vancouver and it stayed in the hotel the rest of the trip.  I miss gripping a camera, but for now the instant gratification of having editing and creative options wit my phone, has made it easy for me to decide, not to pick up a camera for the time being.  Enough of the phone talk and let’s see some pictures.

Open a beer while you’re at it and enjoy!

Walking the streets of Vancouver.

Japadog! Nice spin on the hot dogs.

Their breakfast selection was fantastic and the lavender chocolate for the waffle was great.

Peace out!

Be sure to stay tuned for the upcoming post with the pictures from Seattle.

Throw one back for me ~ cheers!

Birthday Presents

I got a nice pre birthday present for my wife last night. I came home and was surprised by a big box that read “open me”. I wasn’t sure what to expect and was truly surprised to open the box and find beer in it. I was surprised that I got the beer, but not surprised at the fact that my wife would conspire with another man, to get me bottles of my favorite liquid. I truly am a lucky guy and I also appreciate my buddy Steve from Michigan, for helping my wife make all this happen.

Now let’s get to the pictures and contents.

As soon as I opened the box I knew what it was

Hahaha the boobs are back!

What can it be?!

Steve, loves Dogfish Head so much he sent me one of them! Hahaha

2011 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 2,300 times in 2011. If it were a cable car, it would take about 38 trips to carry that many people.

More Beer Mail

I LOVE YOU DETROIT!

In my previous entry I posted pictures of the shipment that came from Illinois and the one pictured below came from the beer state of Michigan; two shipments of the bottled good stuff in less than a month, jackpot! I’m a big Dodgers fan, but I have not paid attention this year and I’ve stayed away from visiting the stadium due to all the BS that’s been happening with the McCourts, that was until they played a series against Detroit for inter league play. I was watching and even listening to the games on the radio; made me realize how much I missed hearing Vin Scully’s voice as he calls the games for the boys in blue. So yes, I was watching and I once again became a devoted fan as I witnessed the Dodgers beat the Detroit Tigers two games out of a three, not a sweep, but all we needed was two W’s to get some precious cargo filled with Cervezas! This is the third consecutive year where the Los Angeles Dodgers have beat the Detroit Tigers and I get to enjoy some beer; I raise my glass filled with beer to Detroit! Below you can see what beers the great Maestro Steve sent.

They made sure I knew it was from Detroit.

These boobs have been through a lot!

Always use protection.

Have you had any of these?

Beer Mail from Illinois

I’m like a kid waking up on Christmas day every time I get a package of beer delivered to me.  This package that was sent from Illinois, it’s from a long time internet buddy named Art.  This was the first time trading with Art, and I was not disappointed with the variety he sent my way.

Shipment

What style and beer can it be?!

Bonus!

Yum!

I’m not surprised Art sent me this, lol!

Good looking bunch
