Super Cru

23 Sep

Here you have a beer from New Belgium, a Belgium Ale called Super Cru from the Lips of Faith series. I drank this during one of these hot summer days and I wish I had payed attention to the ABV as it’s 10%, especially when I wanted something refreshing and I had no one to share it with. Every time I see the bottles on display, I might not buy them, but I take my time admiring the artwork on the bottles; this one is pretty cool. About two years ago I picked up my first bottle of Lips of Faith, it was Dark Kriek, one that is no longer made, but was tasty.

The ale had lots sweet notes in the nose, pears, apples, brown sugar, malt, and definitely some stank of yeast, you know the Belgian yeast stank I’m talking about. The combination of malt, bread yeast and pear dominates the flavor profile. There’s an alcohol burn to finish the sip and you end with up with a peppery finish from the taste of cloves. The clove flavor to finish, reminded me of Christmas, probably a good beer during the winter to keep you warm.

This beer from New Belgium was not very impressive, especially when it was a release for their 20th anniversary. It sure is a sipper, not one to quench your thirst during these summer days as I erroneously tried to do by not paying attention to the bottle. Tasty but I’ll pass on the recommendation. Two Beer Caps for this one.

Throw one back for me ~ cheers!
